Ingredients

Dry Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Provides that soft, coveted texture.
  • 2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast Key to creating that fluffy rise.
  • 1 tsp salt Enhances flavor while aiding gluten development.
  • 2 tbsp sugar A touch of sweetness complements the savory aspects.
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 1/2 cups warm water (110°F/43°C) The gentle warmth awakens the yeast.
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter (melted) Adds richness and a slight nuttiness.

Method

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix warm water and sugar, and sprinkle yeast over it. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour and salt.
  3. Pour in the melted butter and the yeast mixture. Stir until combined, forming a shaggy dough.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Grease a bowl with olive oil. Place dough in the bowl, cover, and allow to rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
Baking
  1. Once risen, gently punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf.
  2. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Place shaped loaf in a greased pan and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  3. Bake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

To avoid overbaking, monitor the loaf during baking. Keep flour measurements accurate to prevent a dense loaf. Kneading can be messy; use plenty of flour to prevent sticking.
